Fix Video Playback Freezes in Windows 10

In this post, you’ll learn exactly what to do to fix video playback freezes in Windows 10. But first, you’ll need to understand why this error occurs in the first place. The best place to begin is to know that it doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s something wrong with the files.

If you’re currently facing a problem with your video playback, this post is for you. Read on to understand why your video freezes and what you can do to solve this problem.

So, why does your video playback freeze?

That’s a good question and so let’s start from there.

The research we conducted on this problem reveals that the issue here is usually something to do with your graphic card or video drivers. At times, it might also be due to the fact that the video itself is corrupted or something wasn’t done correctly when it was being written. But in most cases, scenario one tends to be the root cause of the problem.

You might have realized that your video persists with the freezing no matter the kind of format (mp4, mov, mkv). This might as well extend to various video playing platforms such as Youtube, media players, Amazon Prime, NetFlix, etc.

I can imagine the frustrations and helplessness you might be feeling right now. But the good news is that this problem can be solved and so you shouldn’t give up.

So without further ado, let’s get fixing.

Fix 1: Try a different audio sample rate

This is a solution that I have seen working for quite a number of people. You can implement it following these steps:

  • Right click on the volume icon located on your taskbar and then select Playback Devices
  • Right click on the speaker device then select Properties from the menu
  • Now you’ll need to click on Advanced Mode after which you should change your sample rate from the current to 24 bit, 96000Hz.
  • Next, Apply the changes then say OK.
  • Restart your PC play videos to see if the problem is gone.

Did that work out for you?

Fix 2: Update your display drivers

The best place to begin fixing your video playback freezing issue is to update your video drivers.

Follow the steps in the order given below to do that:

  • Start by pressing Windows Key + R simultaneously. This will initiate the Run Command window.
  • Type this command, devmgmt.msc and hit Enter
  • In the window that comes up, expand the Video Adapters tab and chose Display Driver Name
  • Right click and then click on Update Driver Software
  • In the new window, click on Search automatically for updated driver software
  • Your PC will take sometime to search for new software updates and upgrades (your PC should be connected to the internet).
  • Restart your PC after it has downloaded and installed the updates
  • Go back and try playing videos to see if the problem has been resolved.

Fix 3: Use the device manager to temporarily disable battery

Here are the steps to follow to do this:

  • Press the Windows Key + R simultaneously. This will initiate the Run Command window
  • Type in devmgmt.msc and hit Enter
  • In the new window, expand Batteries then select device battery
  • Right click on it then pick the Uninstall option
  • Once the uninstallation is complete, restart your PC.

Fix 4: Install graphics drivers in compatibility mode

To install graphics drivers in compatibility mode, follow the steps given below:

  • Go to the official website of your PC graphics card manufacturer. For instance, if you’re using a Hp, Dell machine, you should go to the official sites of those site of those companies
  • The next step is to select the configuration of your machine and start downloading the latest version of graphics card drivers
  • When done, you’ll need to locate the Downloads folder then right click on the .exe file you’ve downloaded
  • From the context menu, select Properties then click on the Compatibility tab
  • Check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode
  • Select Windows 7
  • Apply the changes and say OK
  • Double click the setup file to initiate it’s execution
  • Follow the prompts to install the drivers to the end
  • Once the installation is complete, restart your PC
  • Now go back and try playing videos to see if the problem is solved.

Fix 5: New administrator account

1. Press Windows key simultaneously with I to launch Settings then click on Accounts

2. Next select Family and other people located on the left-hand menu then

3. Select Add someone else to this PC under Other People

4. At the bottom, select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information

5. Click on Add a user without a Microsoft account

6. Enter the username and password for the new account then click Next

7. You’ll be redirected to a new screen once the account is created. You’ll now need to Change the account type

8. Change the new account to Administrator then click OK

After you’ve signed in with your newly created Administrator account, the next step is to delete the old account with the video playback freezing issue then create another user account. Did it work out?

Last words

There you have it. Hopefully this solves the problem of video playback freezing in windows 10. If any of our recommendations worked for you, we would be thrilled to hear from you.

Tell us which fix worked for you. And if you experienced challenges along the way or have a question, drop it below and we’ll answer it to the best of our ability.

Fix Windows 10 Update Error error 0x80248007

This error occurs during the Windows 10 Operating System (OS), updates to the latest version. In this post, you’ll learn why this error occurs and most importantly, you’ll be equipped with several techniques by which you can fix it whenever it occurs.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

What causes Windows update error 0x80248007?

This error occurs because of two main reasons. The first one could be that one or several critical files are either missing or corrupt. Secondly, it could be because your Microsoft Software License terms could not be verified. In other words, this error bars you from downloading and installing any updates via Windows update. You’re likely to get this error as many times as you’ll keep clicking on the Retry button.

So now, let’s get down to what really brought you here.

Method 1: Resetting Windows Update Service

Navigate to your Control Panel select view by Large icons then go to Administrative Tools.

Next, double click on Services and provide the required password or confirmation if prompted.

Next, locate and right click on Windows Update and then select stop from the menu that appears. When you apply that, the error is as good as solved.

Method 2: Deleting Windows Update Cache

Deleting the Windows Update cache before retrying the installation of the updates is another quick fix to this error.

Here are the steps to follow to achieve that:

  • Click on Start or press the Windows icon on your keyboard and type in the search bar services.msc.
  • On the results that come up, click on Services
  • Then scroll down until you get to Windows Update Services
  • Right click on it and then click Stop
  • Now go to File Explorer from your Start Menu
  • Navigate to C:>then to Windows>Software Distribution>DataStore then delete all folders and files in there.
  • Again, navigate to C:>Software Distribution>Download then delete everything you find in there.
  • Now you’ll need to restart your computer
  • And try to run the windows update again.

Hopefully, this should solve the problem.

Method 3: Checking the Amount of Free Disk Space

One of the reasons for the missing files or folders could be that your machine doesn’t have enough space to download and store them. It’s always advisable to ensure that your computer has at least 10% of remaining free disc space at any given time.

To check out the amount of available disk space on your computer, do the following:

Go to Start then find File Explorer

Select the File Explorer app

Then click on PC and then check to see the amount of free space on Disk C

  • If the available space is less than the recommended 10%, you’ll need to right click on C click on Properties followed by Disk Cleanup
  • From the list that’s populated, vet and see if there’s anything you can uninstall or remove to create more space.

Method 4: Fixing Corrupt Files

You can fix corrupted files by running a simple chkdsk command.

Here’s how to do that:

  • Go to Start type in CMD in the search bar. Click on run as administrator
  • Next, select YES, if prompted by UAC.
  • In the command window that comes up, type in  chkdsk C: /f /r and then enter.

You’ll see a screen like the one below.

  • In case there’s a prompt for you to initiate a scan the next time you reboot press Y then hit Enter.
  • Now restart your computer and hopefully this should automatically sort out the error for you.

Method 5: Troubleshooting Windows Update

This method is also one that you can quickly use to fix the 0x80248007 error. By taking advantage of the Windows 10 inbuilt troubleshooter, you can find out if there are any errors and apply the recommended solutions.

Here’s what to do:

Click Start followed by Settings

Select Update & Security

On the menu that pops up on your left hand side select Troubleshoot and then click on Windows Update

  • After this, the tool will take some time to check and see if there are any errors that need fixing.
  • In case there are any, apply the fixes and restart your computer.
  • See if this solves the problem by trying to download and install the updates again.

Parting shot

If you keenly follow the steps in any of the 5 methods in this post, you should be in position to get to the bottom of your Windows 10 Update Error 0x80248007 issue.

On that note, we would really love to hear from you. Did you manage to fix the error and run your Windows 10 Updates successfully? Which of the methods we’ve discussed here worked for you? Any challenges you faced while trying to fix the error? Let us know in the comments section below.

How to Transfer Files Between Two Computers Using LAN Cable

Wi-Fi is now the world’s number one wireless connection in offices or privately. People can share files, but it is challenging for massive files such that even a whole drive is not enough. As a result, the speed is slow as the data runs through the public, and it might not be interesting at all. Not to worry, because it is possible to transfer files between two computers using LAN cable.

However, transferring data over a LAN cable would save you all the trouble. If the files you want to move are small, you can do it through Wi-Fi if both devices are operating in the same network. This post will today guide you on how to move between two computers using LAN cable.

Transfer Files using a LAN Cable

An Ethernet cable simplifies the whole process because data is at a fast speed. For instance, a USB cable 2.0 can support a rate of 480 Mbps, which is quite slow. Thus, transferring data using a LAN cable is the best option. A CAT5e cable can sustain a speed of up to 1000 Mbps.

Why you should use a LAN cable

A LAN cable or Ethernet cable’s primary benefit of using it is that it is faster to transfer files between computers than the usual flash drives or Wi-Fi. If you want to share massive data, then this is the best way on all mainstream Windows versions: Windows 7, 8, and 10.

That said, let us see how you can transfer files using a LAN Cable. But before that, make sure that you create a restore point just in case something goes wrong, you can restore your PC back to its initial state.

Transfer Requirements

[tie_list type=”checklist”]

  • The two Windows computers
  • The LAN cable like the CAT 5
  • Because it is your first time, you need patience

[/tie_list]

Step 1: Use the LAN cable to connect the Computers/PC’s

The first step is to combine both computers to the LAN cable. Any LAN cable can work, crossover or ethernet. Because both wires use the same port with few functional differences.

two windows pc connected via lan cable

Step 2: Enable Network Sharing on Both PCs

Now that both PCs are connected turn on the network sharing option on both computers to enable sharing or exchange of files. You have to repeat the process on both PC’s step by step. Click on the Start menu and locate the Control Panel then click on it to open

transfer files between two computers- Control_Panel option on windows pc settings

A new window will open with the Control Panel, select Network, and the Internet.

transfer files between two computers - Control_Panel_Network_Internt option on windows pc settings

Another dialogue box will open, click on Network and Sharing Center. If this is not your first time transferring files between two computers, then you can type the following on the search box after clicking on the startup button: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center, then press the Enter key. The command will redirect you from Control Panel to Network and Sharing Center.

From the left-hand side of the Network and Sharing Center window, navigate to Change advanced sharing settings. Three network options will be visible: Public, Private, and All Network. Public Network is a shared connection in public places like airports, coffee shops or restaurants; Private Network is your home network or an organization while All Network comprises both. For a smooth connection and operation, we recommend you connect them to All Networks.

AllNetwork_FeatureImage option on windows pc settings

Click on the drop-down icon to expand All Networks. Now, enable Public Sharing to open the PCs to access files through the LAN cable to each other. Turn off password protected sharing to avoid typing it every time you try to access it through another computer.

However, this may pose a significant security risk to your network, so make sure you turn on password protection once the process is over. Switching off your password protector opens it for other computers or people to access the network as shared data, whereby they do not require credentials.

Well, this is not a secure practice since you will share your data with people you don’t trust, but now, you are making an exception this one time because you are transferring files between two PC’s you trust. Once you finish, Save Changes and repeat the same process for the second PC.

Step 3: Setup Static IP

Now that you have enabled network sharing on both PC’s, it is time to bring them to the same network. Set up a static IP address of the same class on both PC’s following the steps below.

1. Click on the Startup button and locate the Control Panel to set up a Static IP. Navigate to Network and Internet then tap on Network Sharing Center. You can also right-click on the Start Menu then click on Network Connections.

2. The next window displays active connections. In this case, it is the Ethernet or LAN cable that connects both PCs. Tap on the Ethernet link. A new dialog box opens, and you should click on the Properties button.

3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) on the next pop up menu. Tap on Properties to open another dialogue box.

4. At this point, you need to configure the two PCs on different IP settings.

On the first computer, tap the option “Use the following IP address.” then input the details below;

[tie_list type=”checklist”]

  • IP Address: 192.168.1.1
  • Subnet mask: 225.225.225.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.1.2

[/tie_list]

It may not be necessary to use the above-given IP addresses because you can use any IP address in class A or B. If you are not sure what these IP addresses mean, stick to the above example.

You have to repeat the process on the second PC, but you flip the IP address as well as the Default gateway values

[tie_list type=”checklist”]

  • IP address: 192.168.1.2
  • Subnet mask: 225.225.225.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

[/tie_list]

The above procedure keeps the subnet mask the same and changes the IP address.

Now open your Window’s File Explorer and select the Network tab on the left side of the window.

NetworkTab_ClickON option on windows pc settings

Hopefully, you have set up everything right, as directed above. Both PCs should now be appearing in this Network window. Tap on the other PC’s icon and browse the file. But before you start browsing the files, there is one more setting to configure.

Computers_In_Network option-transfer files between two computers

Step 4: Transfer a folder

We assume your cable connection is okay, the sharing option is also enabled, and the IP address configuration is in order. It is now time to transfer files between the two computers using LAN cable. Before you share the data, we recommend that you create a new folder where you will copy and paste all files you want to share.

creating a new folder option -transfer files between two computers

Now, right-click on the folder you want to share. Navigate to Give access from the context menu then click on the option Specific People

giveAccess_RightClickOption option on windows pc settings -transfer files between two computers

3. From the File Sharing window, on the drop-down menu, select Everyone, then the Add button next to it. You can now finally press the Share button.

transfer files between two computers- Everyone Access option on windows pc settings

After sharing, the next window shows the folder’s location in the network.

The transfer of files between two computers using a LAN cable is now complete, and you can access the folder on the other PC. Launch the Networks panel and Select the other PC’s name.

The file you just shared is now visible. Now you can open the folder and use the usual way (Copy and Paste) to transfer data. You can also repeat the same on the other computer.

In Summary

The guidelines above will only work between Windows PCs. For Mac or Linux, a different sharing agent like Samba is what you need. You can drop any queries, and we will get back to you.

Fix Content File Locked in Steam 2020

Well, well, well, you wake up one day, power on your PC, open your browser and see a Steam game update but you can’t get it updated due to a shitty error, “steam content file locked.” Annoying right?

I am going to take you through the various ways you can get this fixed.

But before that, how about we tell the new guys to Steam games what Steam really is?

If it is your first time hearing of Steam, it is a video game digital distribution platform that was launched in 2003 (September to be precise). This distribution platform was developed by Valve Corporation, providing automatic updates for Steam games as their core goal. Thanks to the founders that today they include updates for games from third-party publishers.

Having offered such an excellent platform for gamers, sometimes it becomes difficult to update a single game. It has become such a pain that users run into a “Steam error” when updating a Steam game.

The error is something like this: An error occurred while updating [game] (Content file locked)

Steam content file locked -error image

What does content file locked mean on Steam?

When you run into a Steam content file locked error, it means that Steam is not in a position to write update files on your hard disk and this will prevent you from playing the latest version of their games.

Most users have thought of this error as a complex or complicated problem, but with a well-thought approach, you can quickly fix the Steam error effortlessly.

How to Fix Content File Locked on Steam?

Running into this error does not mean that it cannot be fixed so, cheer up because there may be many solutions for this error.

Some solutions are very efficient thus a total guarantee that the error will be fixed. Uninstall Steam and all the local game content and later reinstall it afresh turns out to be the most effective method. However, even though it has worked for many users, it is one of the time and data consuming methods you can ever try.

That said, I prefer we start with easy and time-saving solutions before resorting to time-consuming measures as mentioned above.

So, let’s get rolling but before we do, make sure that you create a restore point just in case something goes wrong.

Solution 1: Check the Antiviruses Installed on Your PC

Most of us become confident with our PCs only when there is an antivirus software installed. However, the same antiviruses can lead to this Steam error.

It might be difficult to believe this but here is what happens: antiviruses are very intelligent, and so they can decide to mark Steam files as potential virus and quarantine. When this happens, you will not be able to write any Steam game files on your hard disk.

So, what should you do?

In this situation, the only option is to disable the antivirus until you can do the update on Steam game

The steps to disabling different antiviruses vary between one another. But, you can manage to disable most of them using the steps below temporarily.

The instructions discussed in this fix are only intended to disable antivirus and not to uninstall an antivirus program temporarily

The following steps will help you to disable antivirus in Windows:
  1. Click on the Windows notification area and locate the antivirus protection program icon of the antivirus you are using.
  2. Once you see the antivirus icon, right-click on it then select Disable, Stop, Shut down, or something similar. For some antivirus programs, you may want to open the program then disable it from the antivirus’ menu.

Once you have disabled your antivirus, the next thing is to check the integrity of game files. Below are the steps:

  1. Restart your PC and then relaunch Steam.
  2. Navigate to the LIBRARY section and then right-click on the specific game was giving you problems.
Steam content file locked -library
  1. Select the Properties option then navigate to the Local Files tab.
  2. Next, click the VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES button. Be patient for a while until Steam verifies that particular game.
Steam content file locked -verify integrity
  1. After the Steam game files integrity is verified, try updating Steam games and hopefully the content file locked on Steam has been fixed.

If this error isn’t fixed by now, please try the next fix and see if it can be a viable workaround.

Solution 2: Change Steam and Game Files Location

If the above fix did not work for you, relocating Steam Installation and Game files could work.

However, if the error persists even after changing the location of Steam and game files, then we will have to reinstall Steam. The entire process is listed below.

Any interruption during the copying process may corrupt the files; hence you would have to resort to reinstalling the client again. Therefore, make sure that you have a stable power and no file transfer cables are connected on your PC. It would be wise if you close other running apps too.

Here is how to go about it:

Part 1

  1. Open the Steam Client and then click on the Settings button.
  2. Click on Downloads then choose Steam Library Folders.
  3. Next, select ADD LIBRARY FOLDER. This can be found at the lower-left corner.
adding library folder
  1. Now select the new location for Steam.
  2. After selecting the new location, simply close the Steam Client then head over to your Steam directory. (The default location is C:\Program Files\Steam.)
  3. Find and delete the exe and all the files apart from UserData and SteamApp folders.
  4. Now move these files (UserData and SteamApp folders) to the new location you specified in Step 4.
  5. Once that is done, launch Steam, log in and check if you can now update Steam games without any issues.

If the Steam content file locked error pops up again, follow the steps listed in part 2 below:

Part 2:

Reinstalling Steam is the next thing that we have to do if the above measures did not get you through this mess. Even though it is a long process, this should fix everything.

So,

  1. Close your Steam account and then browse to the folder or location where you relocated Steam.
  2. Move/Cut the StyeamApp folder from that particular directory and paste it on your Desktop.
  3. Now uninstall Steam in order to remove the old Steam settings from your PC completely.
  4. After the uninstallation process is complete, reinstall Steam but this time, to the initial location that you selected.
  5. Afterwards, move the SteamApps folder that you pasted on the Desktop to the new Steam directory. Moving this folder is important because it will copy all of your game content, your saved games and settings and you will resume from where you left.
  6. Run/Open Steam and key in your credentials.
  7. Finally, verify the integrity of Steam game files using the verification steps in solution 1, and now everything should work just fine.

Solution 3: Reset Winsock

The Winsock catalogue turns out to be another issue that can cause “Steam content file locked error.”

However, the best thing is that we can reset it and rollback to default settings if we execute the netsh winsock reset command.

You can follow these steps to reset Winsock:

  1. Hit the Windows key + R on the keyboard simultaneously to open the Run dialogue box.
  2. Type cmd in the text box and then press Enter key to open the Command Prompt terminal.
  3. Click Yes to grant administrator permission when prompted by the User Account Control (UAC) .
  4. Type netsh winsock reset in the CMD window then hit the Enter key on the keyboard.
Steam content file locked-winsock
  1. Restart your computer once the command has executed successfully.

Try updating Steam games and see if “Steam content file licked” has been solved.

Solution 4: Repair Corrupt Files

If you are still experiencing the same Steam error, we can try repairing the game files. Doing this will fix any corrupt or missing files that are making it impossible to update Steam games.

Here are the instructions that can guide you on how you can repair Corrupt/Missing Steam Game files:

  1. Close all apps including Steam and navigate to the Steam directory (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam).
  2. Open the Logs folder and then click on Txt.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the text file and see if any recent errors are logging your device.

An example of an error is this: [2017-04-12 12:47:31] [AppID 346110] Update canceled: File commit failed: failed to move unchanged file “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\346110\570371714\LinuxNoEditor\NPC\Female\Assets\Nude\Nude_Human_Female_Body_D.uasset.z.uncompressed_size” (Disk write failure) Kevin Arrows

The number written first in the URL is your APPID, in this case (346110) is the AppID for ARK Survival Evolved.

  1. Afterwards, navigate to the root folder. In my case, according to the error log above, it is 570371714. Please note that the root folders of different games may vary.
  2. Relaunch Steam and then go your downloads folder.
  3. Lastly, click on the Update option if there are any updates to update the necessary files.
  4. Restart your PC and see if the error is fixed

Solution 5: Check Disk Scan

If the game installation is in a hard drive that has been corrupted or contains bad sectors, you will receive the Steam error content file locked when you try to update it.

This happens because if a Hard Drive has “Bad” sectors, it will slow down. Also, if that is the case, certain areas of the hard drive can’t be accessed.

Running a “Disc Check” scan can help you scan the drive for bad sectors.

We will have a look at two way to scan the hard drive – using the command prompt and using the Partition Wizard tool. You are free to use any option since both achieve the same goal.

Option 1: Disk Scan Using Command Prompt

  1. Press the “Windows” + “R” keys simultaneously to open the Run dialogue box.
  2. Type in “cmd” and then press “Enter“.
  3. Typechkdsk c: /f” without quotes in the command prompt terminal and press “Enter” to execute the command
  4. PressY” on the keyboard to confirm the scheduling of a disk check scan.
  5. Be patient for a while for the Disk Check scan operation to complete.
  6. Relaunch the Steam game and see if the content file locked on steam error persists.

Option 2: Disk Scan Using MiniTool Partition Wizard

Do you want to check whether your hard drive has bad sectors? e I recommend that you use the MiniTool Partition Wizard toolkit.

This tool is an all-in-one partition manager that can be used to detect bad sectors on your hard drive. Apart from that, you can also use it to perform other tasks like, migrating your operating system from disk to another without disk loss, analyzing your disk space when your computer slows down, and many more.

[button color=”blue” size=”big” link=”https://cdn2.minitool.com/?p=pw&e=pw-free” icon=”fa-download” target=”true” nofollow=”true”]Download MiniTool Partition Wizard Free[/button]

Here is how you can check bad sectors on the Hard drive via MiniTool Partition Wizard:

  1. Download this software using the button above and install it.
  2. Run the app after installing to open the main interface. From here you will see your disk and the features you can use listed.

Please note that once the process starts, it cannot be stopped and should not be interrupted. So, make sure that your PC is on power.

Performing a Restore in Safe Mode

There are times when System Restore won’t work. This is usually due to various Windows issues or software conflicts. When this happens, it means that your computer system will not be able to roll back to the desired Restore point.

Thanks to Microsoft that there is a way to overcome this problem. You just need to start the Windows in Safe Mode.

When you start your PC in safe mode, only the essential part of the Window runs and any problematic software, apps, drivers or settings will be disabled.

Often, any computer that is restored in safe mode is usually successful.

To boot your PC in Safe Mode and continue with the restore, follow the below steps:

  1. Boot your computer in Safe mode by following any of the methods listed here.
  2. After your system is in safe mode, click on the Troubleshoot option and then click on Advanced Options.
  3. You will see a list of six options under Advanced options, leave the rest and just click on System Restore.
  4. Choose a System Restore point to which you want to restore the System. Make sure that you select the most recent restore point.

Be patient until the process is complete. When the restore process is complete, you will be taken to the login screen or to your desktop.

Performing a Restore when the PC is not booting up

In case your computer is not booting or the Windows is not starting normally you can perform Restore it.

In these conditions, follow these steps below:

  1. Make sure that your computer is completely off.
  2. Press the power button and continuously press the F8 key in order to enter the Boot menu.
  3. A Troubleshoot window will open. Click on Advanced options.
Advanced options -Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working
  1. Click on the System Restore option and then proceed with steps 7 to 10 in method 1.
perform the restore

NOTE

Although we are focusing on Windows 10, the same steps can get you through the restore process on windows 8.1 and windows 7.

Also, even though a System Restore is very helpful, certain things should be kept in mind.

Let me shed some light to you that while dealing with restore point or the restore process.

  • System Restore cannot not protect your computer from viruses and malware.
  • If you happened to create any new user accounts since the last restore point was set, the restore point will be erased but your data and files that you created will remain.
  • A restore point does not serve the purpose of Windows backup.

I hope that one of the above methods has helped you to use System Restore on Windows 7,6.1 and 10 and that by now you’ve managed to fix Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working error.

Solution 5: Run DISM Tool

Note that you should not use the SFC command when trying to fix this error because it will replace Microsoft Opencl.dll file with Nvidia.

It therefore recommended that you check the system integrity by running the DISM Checkhealth command.

Below is how you can go about it:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Now type in the following commands and hit Enter after each:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  1. If the above command did not help you fix the error, try using the following replacing C:\RepairSource\Windows with with your repair source location (Windows Installation or Recovery Disc):

Dism /Image:C:\offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows /LimitAccess

  1. To verify the integrity of the system run DISM command:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

  1. Restart your PC for changes to take effect and then check to see if you managed to take care of the error.

Solution 6: Run the System File Checker

If the DISM Tool was not helpful, an SFC could come in handy.

  1. Hit the Windows + R keys on your keyboard in order to open the Run utility.
  2. Now type in “cmd”, hit Enter key and then click on the Yes button to launch the Command Prompt with administrative permissions.
  3. Once the Command Prompt opens, type this command:

sfc /scannow

  1. Press Enter to execute it
  2. Be patient until the SFC scan repairs corrupt files. During this time, don’t close the Command Prompt or shut down your PC.
  3. Reboot your device after the scan is complete.

Solution 7: Run CCleaner and Malwarebytes

  1. Start by downloading CCleaner and Malwarebytes.
  2. Install both programs and then run Malwarebytes
  3. Give it some time to scan and check your system for any hazardous files. In case any malware is found, this program will remove them automatically.
  4. Next, open CCleaner
  5. Navigate to “Cleaner” section then head over to the Windows tab.
  6. Check the following selections for cleaning then click Run Cleaner. Give it some time for the process to finish.

  3. Click Fix Selected Issues.
  4. Select Yes in case Cleaner asks if you want to backup changes to the registry.
  5. Select Fix All Selected Issues immediately the backup process is complete.
  6. Restart your PC to save changes.

Solution 8: Run Memtest86

NOTE:

Ensure that you have access to another PC because we will need to download and burn the software to a USB flash drive.

Also, since this fix takes quite some time to be successful, I would advise that you do it overnight or when you don’t have anything crucial to carry out

Once everything is in place, follow the guidelines below:

  1. Plug your USB flash drive to your system.
  2. Download and install Windows Memtest86 Auto-installer for USB Key.
  3. Once the program has been installed, right-click on the image file which you just downloaded then select “Extract here.” Open the folder then run Memtest86+ USB Installer.
  4. From the next window, select your USB drive in order to start burning the MemTest86 program. Please note that this process will format your USB drive.
Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working -image 1
  1. After burning the software, unplug the USB drive then plug it in the computer that was showing the Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working.
  2. Restart your PC
  3. Select boot from the USB flash drive and Memtest86 will immediately start testing for memory corruption
  4. If your PC passes all the tests made by this tool then your memory is working perfectly fine. However, if other steps were unsuccessful, Memtest86 will find memory corruption. This means that the error in question is being triggered by a corrupt memory.
  5. To Fix Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working error, simply replace your RAM.

What is the Bonjour service in Windows? How to remove it completely?

I believe you are curious to know what Bonjour service in Windows is. Many people have asked if it is a good idea keeping it or it should be removed completely. The answer to this question will entirely depend on whether you have an iPhone or Apple TV.

Today, I am going to take you through everything that this service entails, whether you should remove it or not, and most importantly how to remove it from your PC.

Let’s cut to the chase.

What is the Bonjour service?

Source

This service was initially called Apple Rendezvous. Its main purpose is to simplify network operations.

The funny part of this program is that when installed, it doesn’t create a desktop icon and neither will you use it directly. It is not like Google Chrome or Adobe Illustrator. In fact, it is only used by applications and other programs.

This service acts as an intermediary (and runs in the background) between these applications and your local data network.

The communication happens when the iTunes program on your PC finds other PCs on your network which have iTunes installed. This way, you can take control of the shared media libraries.

How does this service get on your Windows PC?

It happens that you’ll find this service running on your PC yet you did not manually install it. Well, you have a chance to personally/manually install it and sometimes apps like Safari and iTunes will auto-install Bonjour service on your PC.

So, is it safe to remove it?

If you are not using Apple devices (e.g MacBooks or iPhones, or Apple TV), you don’t need it. However, Windows has some programs that depend on Bonjour service to execute properly so always check the system requirements for all your apps. When you find out that it is of no use, you can safely get rid of it from your Windows PC.

NOTE:

If you did not install Bonjour yet it’s on your PC, don’t remove it. It simply means that there is an application that depends on it to run. Uninstalling it will cause some programs to misbehave or crash.

How to remove/uninstall/delete Bonjour service on Windows 10/8/7

If you didn’t install Bonjour service then it was installed by an app that depends on it. The good news is that if you are not using the app, you can permanently uninstall it and no harm will befall your PC.

Here are the steps to uninstall the Bonjour service from your Windows computer:

Method 1: Uninstalling Bonjour service

  1. Press Windows button + R to open the run box
  2. Next, type appwiz.cpl then hit Enter.
  3. Find the Bonjour service from the list of programs/services displayed. This should appear under Programs and Features screen.
  4. Click on the Bonjour app then on select Uninstall.

command 4
  1. Repeat step one but this time type the command below in the Run dialogue box then hit Enter.
    regsvr32 /u “%PROGRAMFILES%BonjourmdnsNSP.dll”
Bonjour service -command 3

For 64-bit Systems:

  1. If you’re operating on a 64 bit PC, press Windows key + R and then type the following command. Hit Enter key afterwards.
